Roman blinds are fabric blinds that fold up into soft, horizontal pleats when raised. They offer the warmth and softness of curtains with a neat, compact look when open, making them a popular choice where the tailored feel of fabric is wanted but a roller or vertical blind would look too plain. They can be lined for improved light control, and {{blackoutBlinds}} lining is available for bedrooms. BASEL FZE measures, supplies and installs made-to-measure roman blinds to your window dimensions.
Benefits of Roman Blinds
Warm Fabric Feel
Soft fabric folds bring the warmth and texture of curtains to a blind, adding softness to hard-edged glazing.
Neat When Raised
The fabric folds up compactly into a layered stack at the top of the window, maximising your view and daylight.
Made to Measure
Tailored to your exact window dimensions so the folds sit correctly and the blind drops precisely to the sill.
Suitable Rooms & Properties
Roman blinds suit living rooms, bedrooms and dining areas across Dubai villas and apartments. They are a popular choice where a warm fabric look is wanted but a full curtain would be too heavy, and they work well on standard-height windows where the folded stack sits neatly above the glass.
Dubai Considerations
Dubai's strong sunlight makes lining an important choice for roman blinds. An interlined or blackout-lined roman blind reduces light transmission for bedrooms and media rooms, while an unlined or lightly lined fabric suits living areas where soft daylight is wanted. Because the fabric folds when raised, the stack depth is worth considering on shorter windows where the folded blind can cover part of the glass when open.
Heading Styles, Lining & Operation
Roman blinds can be made with different heading styles, including a classic flat-fronted look or a softer cascading fold. The fabric is supported by horizontal rods or battens sewn into channels, and cords threaded through these lift the fabric into even folds when raised. Lining options range from a plain cotton lining for body and privacy to a blackout lining for light control, and an interlining can be added for a fuller, more luxurious fold. Operation is by a continuous side chain or cord, and motorised options are available for tall or hard-to-reach windows. A wide choice of fabrics and finishes is available to suit your interior.
Consultation & Measurement
The site visit and measuring are free. We visit your property in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, measure the recess and the glass size, advise on the heading style and lining for the room, and help you choose a fabric from our fabric library including Clark & Clark. Your Roman blinds are then ready in typically 5–8 working days, with delivery and installation included.
Professional Installation
BASEL supplies and professionally installs your roman blinds. The brackets are fixed securely, the blind is mounted level, and the folding action is tested so the fabric stacks neatly and drops smoothly. For motorised blinds we confirm the control setup before finishing.
Care & Maintenance
Care depends on the fabric. Some roman blind fabrics can be lightly wiped, while others may need professional cleaning to protect the lining and the fold structure. We advise on the appropriate method for your chosen fabric.

Roman Blinds — FAQs
Are roman blinds suitable for Dubai homes?
Yes. Roman blinds are a popular choice for Dubai living rooms and bedrooms, offering a warm fabric look with a neat, compact fold.
Can roman blinds be blackout?
Yes. Blackout lining is available for roman blinds to improve light control, which is useful for bedrooms and media rooms.
Can roman blinds be motorised?
Yes. Motorised options are available for roman blinds, convenient for tall or hard-to-reach windows. Ask our team about what's available for your setup.
What is the difference between roman blinds and roller blinds?
Roller blinds roll the fabric up around a tube for a flat, low-profile look, while roman blinds fold the fabric into soft horizontal pleats for a warmer, curtain-like appearance.
Do roman blinds suit floor-to-ceiling windows?
Roman blinds can be made for tall windows, but because the fabric folds into a stack when raised, the folded depth is worth considering on very tall windows. We can advise on the best option for your glazing.
